Dax Worcester Concert reviews
Lynyrd Skynyrd still rocks!
Having said that, every song they played was a classic...not a single song from their new album, which was just released! The new pianist, Johnny kept referring to as "Mr Keys" was fantastic as Billy Powell's playing was legendary! They opened with Workin' For MCA, right into I Ain't The One just like the opening of their classic live LP from '76 One More From The Road, which signaled they meant business! They rolled right through classics like Simple Man, Call Me The Breeze, Saturday Night Special, Tuesday's Gone, What's Your Name?, That Smell, Gimme Back My Bullets and the raucous Gimme Three Steps, all played flawlessly with the enthusiasm of the original recordings. Clocking in at only 1:20 its by far the shortest show we've seen in a long time! Johnny Van Zandt is still singing the songs as his brother did 40 years ago, paying tribute to him virtually every chance he gets. Gary Rossington, at 62 years old and the only living member of the original line up (aside from Ed King & Rob Burns who don't tour with them anymore), is still playing his lead guitar parts with expert precision. They even dusted off the classic Mississippi Kid replete with mandolin played by Ricky Medlock. We'd go see Dax again in a heartbeat! They closed the set with Sweet Home Alabama before coming back with the only song they could possibly play as an encore and farewell...Free Bird!
